Wheat free and traveling the world....

After getting married on March 09, 2013--John and I decided to start up a traveling blog for our family, or anyone else who wanted to follow along where our feet are treading...

This is just a quick snap shot of one week in the life of John and Becky (IVINS!):

This was Wednesday, March 06--John was sure the wedding was under serious weather threat!

Just 3 days later--March 09.  A beautiful 60 degree day painted by the hand of God!

Delhi, India.........just 3 days after that!  March 12!

It is amazing what can happen in one short week.  After the wedding celebration, we drove to Washington DC late Sunday night to be prepared for our Monday morning flight to Dubai.  Our flight took off at 10:55AM and John and I got cozy on the plane for the LONG 14 hour flight.  We started off the trip by watching "Argon."  This is not the movie you want to watch prior to entering foreign soil.....it was SCARY!  We spent the remainder of the flight snoozing, eating, watching movies, snoozing, eating...etc.  The nice thing we have figured out with these long airline flights is that you can ask ahead of time for Gluten Free food.  Not only does the food come out special delivery, it comes out well before any other patrons are served their wheat filled meals.  It always makes you feel kind of sorry for the other 300 hungry passengers who are staring at you as you take each bite.

We landed successfully in Dubai and after a short lay-over, set out on yet another flight (this one was just short of 3 hours) for India.  John and I slept most of that flight. I think we probably looked like we had taken drugs.  We literally woke up at one point during the flight to eat (yes, gluten free and with the whole hungry looking rest of the plane staring at us)....I think we both fell asleep after our last bite.  We awoke to: INDIA!  Our driver from the hotel picked us up and drove us through the city to Delhi.  He took the time to explain the culture and depicted a people who believe highly in destiny and embrace happiness, no matter the circumstance.

Although we haven't been here very long, you can already feel the humble proudness in the society here.  With a crowded population of 16 million, Delhi holds a culture who is highly Hindu.  From one block to the next, wealth and poverty mix like sand on the shore.  The people here are happy.  Because they believe in destiny, they have no reason to be jealous of someone else's gain over their own.  Rich or poor, they believe their life is what it was destined to be...thus you don't see envy and spite.

They have very little emphasis on traffic laws, so you can imagine everything from people walking, to bicycles, to motorcycles and cars, and ALL are weaving in and out of each other.  Honking is constant.  After such long flights, I found the constant honking of horns to be rather soothing--the flights had been long and our bodies had not even begun to adapt to the time change.

As it is, the night has fallen upon us here, so we will close.  Stay tuned for more of our journey.  We love each of you and miss your faces....We continue to praise a God who so fully redeems.
